Hong Kong Rugby 7s

it was a long day, friends.  i skipped out on friday's festivities because it was raining and i knew i had to be up early for saturday.  saturday started around 9 with gregg coming by to collect me.  we went off to the stadium and directly to the south stand.  i went as amy winehouse and gregg was a priest.  yes, a priest and amy winehouse off to watch rugby...so anyway, we met up with a bunch of other mates and i stayed off drinking until about 11 (now THAT is will power).  we had a blast and then moved over to the corporate boxes to scam some free food and drinks.  after that was more drinking in the tents, down to wyndham street and then to lkf.  all in all in was a top day and it ended around 2 am.

highlight #1:  a colleague of ours MAKING out with a client (who is almost divorced with 3 kids and who likes to go whoring in wanchai) in credit suisse's corporate box.  it was in front of 3 of her work colleagues and the entire cs box of employees, their clients and people they do business with.  they left together and it was a classy move.  the three of just stood their mouths agape with utter shock.

highlight #2:  being told that the "ex" has basically told people that i am "his".  i told the messenger of this news that i didnt belong to anyone - never have, never will, especially not him.

hightlight #3:  a mate getting all territorial and actually grabbing another dude's throat because he didnt like this guy talking to his girl - not his girlfriend, but his sorta lady friend.

what is up with these dudes?  do they think females are hydrants?  i mean, you cant (figuratively) pee on us and then you own us.  WTF people?

here is a pic of me as amy winehouse - you cannot really see the extent of my outfit - i had some hot tats (that i cannot scrub off) as well as the signature beehive of my own hair.  and then there is one of gregg as a priest...a dirty drunken one, of course:

Rugby 7s

here it is kids, the week leading into the 7s...i am so afraid.  copious amounts of drinking for three days straight.  it starts thursday as i am going to the credit suisse rugby dinner (with the ex - should be interesting) and then struggling through work, off to the stadium friday night, early satruday, allllllll day long saturday and sunday afternoon...

all in all, i am much happier despite the fact that i am setting myself up for some serious partying.  that monday morning meeting will be ROUGH.

here's my pic for today:

i know, i look like hell.  am off to bed.

Phuket, Baby!

here i am back in hk after a most wonderful trip to phuket.  we stayed at the chedi on a private beach near surin beach.  the first night we arrived and had many cocktails.  some skinny dipping in the ocean and the pool followed along with some additional drunken antics later in the hotel rooms.  we woke the next day and sobered up on the beach.  that night we headed out to crazy patong and hung out with the lady boys.  i saw some awesome vaginal skills that included ping pong balls, popping balloons and blowing out candles all with the use of one body part...good times.  then another day on the beach including massages right there on the sand with an incredible view of crystal blue ocean.  we went for a dinner at night followed by a half day on the beach and then back to hong kong.  all in all it was a PERFECT holiday.  i could have done with an extra day honestly...check out the pictures.  we were joking around with the non-smiley ones.  since we were in paradise, we figured it would be best to not smile ;)

Nights at Golden Pavilion

first off, here are two pics from our trip to shenzen.  we went to the shangri-la hotel for lunch while we waited for all my lovely dvds to be brought from whatever dodgy place they come from and while we waited for our food, there was a tea server there who does a fabulous dance and then hot water comes out.  it was fantastic.  china rules for this kitschy sort of things...

anyway, here are a couple of thoughts for tonight.

strong women and the size of their...paychecks:
last night i went out with two couples (this is my life here - they 3rd or 5th wheel) and the women were the ones clearly driving the train.  one of the guys is a photographer (and very successful) and the other is a dude doing events work in a company.  the jobs are both solid but monetarily, the women are in the drivers seat.  however, while the men discussed books, film, art and music, the women discussed work.  is that what happens with both men or women - that in order to be more monetarily "successful" does one just not have any time for other interests?  being here in hk where everything is about work, money, status and consumerism, i find myself drifting away - becoming more and more work-centric.  so many ex-pats move here for work that this town becomes all about work.  so what is the end of it all?  who can suggest a great read for me?

my first night IN:
i have not been in my flat directly after work since............yeah, i dont know.  it feels weird, to be honest.  i came home directly after work, did some stuff for my flat, made dinner and now i am watching tv online.  i seriously havent done this in ages.

however, it is all part of me "settling" in here.  i need to make a concerted effort to try to stay in hk for a bit and be a normal person other than 24/7 on holiday.

thats all for now folks.

Father's Words of Wisdom = Consumer Goods and Hookers

all the trouble at work - all i needed was some of my father's words of wisdom.  he didnt say anything more or less than anyone else but at the end of the day, i know (or SHOULD know) that it is all in tone and delivery.  he basically told me to stop being so self important and take my head out of my ass.  so i have.  i am playing the game, officially.  anyone who knows me knows i dont play the game all that well but i am doing it for my new computer (and sanity but right now my computer takes priority) since if i was in manhattan i probably wouldnt be able to afford it but here i am in hong kong, sitting pretty in my flat with my brand new hot imac.  people, i am sorry, it is SICK.  i am so in love.  who needs men when you have this baby?  not me!

speaking of, they are rubbish and ive given up.  men in hk are not men but more spoilt children in a candy shop.  yet they are not children, they are in age adults with too much money, wives and families at "home" but like to go whoring in wanchai.  now, i am not judging, what you do in your life is your business but i cannot keep company with people who find this an acceptable practice all the time.  and by all the time, i mean thursday and friday of every weekend.

god, i have a wonderful way of digressing...

anyway, i am gonna man up, stay in hong kong and fight the good fight.  how many mixed metaphors did i just use there?  too many but i had a BIG beer for dinner.  duvel.  750ml, you should try it some time.  oh god, now that i have a computer at home, i am sensing this is the beginning of the drunken posts which i have avoided until now...NOW that i have my HOT new SEXY computer...

i do miss new york, all my mates and my family but i hope you will still love me when i come back - fat and with a LOT of consumer goods....

Foking China

i went to guangzhou before christmas and my sweet honkie colleague offered to take rmb out of his account. so i went with mates, bought a few things and all was fine. i went to shenzhen a couple of weekends ago to buy LOADS of dvds and was told by the little dvd man that three of my 100s were fake. "WHAT???? they came out of the atm!" i told him. but he didnt care and said to me, "i know what bills are fakes - these are fakes". so that was that. i went home with some but not all of my dvds. today my honkie and i went to bank of china to tell them the bills were fake. the outcome? one was not fake and two were. so he filed some paperwork and that is it. i lose 200 rmb. it is only about 50 bucks but STILL it is the principal of the whole thing. i live in a country where you can go to an atm and the money can be freaking FAKE. what am i doing here? honestly?

Another Day in the Life of Blah

this past week/weekend was good. a friend is in hk and we've done some nice trips to the peak, out to sheko, etc. the weather is gorgeous - not yet summer humid, but warm during the daytime.

and the move is complete into the new flat but i need to buy so much stuff. the problem with flats here is that none of them have closets so you need to buy wardrobes and armoires and all that jazz. i need to get another couch and some more storage for all my damn shoes.

but i am off to singapore later this week so that should be good (to at least get out of the office). another colleague is going as well, coincidentally, and we will meet up with the team down there. knowing tommy, it is sure to be a mess...good thing i have a 9:30 meeting the next day...

and the drama and shit envirnoment ensues at work. my snake of a manger continues to poach business and this time it is from me. believe you me, i am NOT standing for it. i cant take it, this man is going to be the death of me...

all i have to say is "AROD is a loser" - GO SOX!!!!!!!!!

Two Sad Pictures of Tokyo

i feel like i have to post SOME pictures of tokyo because it is the worlds coolest city. but i was so damn busy, all i have that is somewhat decent, are the following two shots, which are LAME. the first is a shot of the imperial palace that i took from one of the many conference rooms i visited and the following is the lunch hour.

the gossip about the royal family in japan is that they are desperate for a male heir. the queen who is quite bright and was a career woman is now going crazy because they dont have a son. she is older...i dont remember how old but go google it yourself, dammit, be resourceful!

and then lunch hour in asia is a unique experience. they are all like dock workers. at 1230 on the nose, everybody punches out and rushes to lunch for either an hour or an hour and a half. this lunch was taken in the ground floor of some big office tower. all these carts are set up selling fun japanese cuisine.

other than that, lets see..........a mate from the ny office is here in hk for two weeks which is really nice. a bit of home which is defo welcome during this economic downturn (i just paid my hk taxes).

thats all for now, hopefully i will have some better news soon!
